Did you know that Taylor Swift has at least 2 songs that are in 5/4 time? And despite REALLY loving the I – V – ii – IV and I – V – vi – IV chord progressions, she occasionally throws in a few mixture (borrowed) chords from the parallel minor key!
In this session participants will take an interactive tour of the popular music ear training and theory curriculum in Auralia & Musition and discover how these tools can help students develop core theory and listening skills within a contemporary context.
Attendees will learn how to engage students and teach them about intervals, chords, scales, meter, song form and harmonic progressions through the music of Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Stevie Wonder and many others.
Additionally, participants will:
- Explore the popular music worksheets with automatic assessment
- Learn how to import YouTube links, audio and notation
- Explore the singing & recording feature including strategies for developing musical literacy, performance, and improvisation skills
- Learn how to search the Auralia library for inclusive content, including works by female composers/artists and composers/artists of color
Finally, attendees will examine methods for curriculum customization, content sharing, remote and face to face delivery, and LMS (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle etc) integration.
