What are the unique features of songs and the songwriting process that foster social emotional learning and skill-building in teenagers? In this research presentation, singer-songwriter and teaching artist, Anne Heaton, shares how teenagers utilize a partner-based songwriting exercise to explore and develop identity, recognize and express emotions, reflect close relationships, and connect authentically with one another.
