In my two-decade career as a community college music professor, I have strived to integrate popular music education and world music into the existing college music curriculum. In this paper, I will reflect on my experiences as a practitioner-teacher-researcher of popular music facilitating curricular development in both practical popular music courses such as songwriting, pop/rock ensemble and concert promotion and production as well as theoretical courses in world music and the history of American popular music. I will address lessons learned from my past experiences as well as discussing current challenges and future directions.
